About MapRadius
A free, accurate radius tool that answers one question well: what is within this distance of here?
What MapRadius does
The Map Radius Tool draws a circle of a set distance around any point on a map and lists the places inside it. You can search an address, use your GPS position or click the map, set the radius in miles, kilometers, meters, feet or nautical miles, and read the cities, towns and neighbourhoods inside the circle. The results export to CSV, KML and GeoJSON, and a share link opens the same view for anyone.
Why we built it
Most radius tools stop at drawing the circle. Local businesses need the next step: a list of real place names. Google Business Profile, for example, asks service-area businesses for up to 20 named places, not a distance. MapRadius lists the places inside your radius and copies up to 20 of them in the format Google expects. Our guide explains how to choose Google Business Profile service areas with it.
How the tool works
Every circle is a 128-point geodesic polygon. Distances use the haversine formula on a sphere of mean Earth radius, 6,371 km (3,959 mi), so a 50-mile circle is a true 50 miles in every direction. Against the real, slightly flattened Earth, the result stays within 0.5%.
Place names come from Google Places when it is available, and from OpenStreetMap otherwise. Map tiles come from Google Maps, Esri and OpenStreetMap, drawn with the open-source Leaflet library.
Our principles
- Free. Every feature is free, with no trial and no usage cap.
- No sign-up. You never need an account.
- Private by design. The tool runs in your browser and keeps no record of your circles. Share links carry the whole view inside the URL.
- Honest about limits. A radius shows straight-line distance, not travel time. Our radius vs drive-time guide explains where a drive-time map is the better choice.
